The bike was a Claude butler legend I had one puncture so the rear tire was changed and a new gear chain was fitted just under half way.
I oiled the chain and blew up the tires every couple of days, the seat suspension post seized up which meant I had on all 3 pairs of cycling shorts and was still in agony for a few days. filling the post with oil helped a bit.
I bought the bike a couple of months ago as it could carry luggage but I have not included this in the costs as I use it a couple of times a week for work and I wore my last bike out.
fitted a seat bag, pump, water bottle, a good gel seat, and that was that really the sitting position is good for this sort of journey unless it is windy it always comes back to the wind.
I bought myself a compass watch I know this sounds daft but on a rainy day going 5 miles east instead of west is a nightmare after almost reaching Exeter I finally turned left looking down at my watch and seeing NE on the display was a great feeling
maps, I carried 4 miles to the inch pages ripped from a cheap road map it worked for me, and throwing them away as you changed pages cannot be described I bought a map of Scotland from a garage when I got there.
